I’m not a doctor or anything, but last I heard you had to go through puberty to even think about having a baby. I know with the recent success in television and film about teen pregnancies (MTV’s Teen Moms and Juno) kids may come across the notion that it might be cool to have sex and get pregnant, but I was hoping that kids were smart enough to get past that notion and continue playing with their barbies and transformers. An 11 year old girl has just given birth to a healthy baby boy.
The family’s identity and their location are under wraps to protect their privacy, but I won’t be surprised if I see TLC jumping on this to create a new show to replace Jon and Kate Plus 8 with Baby Raising Baby. This is wrong on so many levels. I mean I hope all the best for the girl, the baby, and the father whoever he may be, but I mean 11! I think I was trying to beat my high score on Tetris before I even started thinking about scoring with a girl.
I’m happy for any new life coming into the world, but what about this girl’s future and all the mental implications? She’s going to be growing up with her baby. Her mother will be raising her child and her grandchild. While her friends are playing house and getting their first crushes and kisses, this girl will already be 20 years ahead of them in actually coming home and raising a kid. And what about the father? The responsibility that goes into raising a kid, is he going to raise him or fight over toys with him?
I hope that everything will work out for the best. I just hope that no one gets any ideas and 11 year olds think it’s ok to start having babies. I’m 22 and the older I get the more I realize that you don’t suddenly become an adult, you learn from life and you mature. But this takes growing up too fast to a whole new level.
