The 2010 MTV VMA Awards kicked off in grand fashion as the heated rap star Eminem was back on stage with several tracks from “Recovery.”  Fans were going crazy as the recovered rapper showed his typical stage rage spitting rapid fire lyrics live.

Em started off with his lead single “I’m Not Afraid” complete with a scene that looked to be straight off the “8 Mile” movie set.  From there he launched into a performance of his current big hit with Rihanna “Love the Way You Lie.”  There had been speculation prior to tonight’s VMA show that Rihanna wouldn’t be joining Eminem for the performance, but she was there live to give her vocals on the hook.  Eminem won several VMA awards on the night, including one that Nicki Minaj took for him, as Em had left the building.

This was a great way to get the 2010 MTV VMA Awards started off, right before the hosting duties were handed over to Chelsea Handler. On the white carpet Ke$ha wore a trash bag while Lady Gaga went with a peacock-looking outfit.  Award winners as of this report include 30 Seconds to Mars, Lady Gaga with a slew of awards, and Eminem aka “Slim Shady.”  Congratulations to all the winners so far at the VMA’s!

Here’s a YouTube video of Eminem and Rihanna’s “Love the Way You Lie” performance from the 2010 MTV VMA Awards.  You can see live behind-the-scenes footage from the VMA backstage, green room and more here at MTV.com.  Enjoy!
