2011 MLB Regular Season Standings

The MLB just concluded play for the first weekend in June, and the Texas Rangers (34-26) had the best week as they have won five straight ball games and have opened up a 2.5 games lead over the Seattle Mariners. On the other end of the spectrum, the Oakland A’s and Chicago Cubs have both lost their last six contests and have dropped back in the respective divisions.

The NY Yankees (33-24) continue to lead the AL East, but the Boston Red Sox have turned around after a slow start and trail the Yankees by just one game. Toronto and Tampa Bay are both over .500 and are tied for third place, four games behind New York.

Cleveland (33-24) has hit their first rough patch on the year, losing four straight games, but they still lead the AL Central by 2.5 games over the Detroit Tigers.

Philadelphia (35-24) has led the NL East for the entire season and have now opened a three-game lead over the Florida (31-26), after the Marlins have dropped four straight contests. Atlanta (32-28) have played solid all season and trail the Phillies by just 3.5 games in the race for the division title.

St Louis (36-25) is another team that has overcome a slow start, and the Cardinals now lead the NL Central by two games over the Milwaukee Brewers. Cincinnati has slipped to third place in the division and now are 5.5 games back in the division.

San Francisco (33-26) and Arizona (33-27) are the only teams in the NL West above .500, but if Colorado can regain the form they showed in April, it could be an exciting race to watch this summer.

The MLB has a huge opportunity to gain back fans and the sports world, especially with the news from the NFL and NBA not looking so good. If the season continues with the strong play and great storylines, this could be just what baseball needs to regain the popularity it had in the ’80s and ’90s.
