The 2011 NBA Finals are ready to get underway tonight between the Dallas Mavericks and the Miami Heat in Game 1 of the best of 7 series to decide the NBA champion. It’s not common to say that before a championship series starts that one team has all the pressure on it and the other one doesn’t, but in this case that may apply.
With all the off-season free agent signings and other various moves the Miami Heat made the house of cards will not be complete without a championship ring.
Anything short is a failure.
After LeBron James decided he needed his own prime time show to announce that he was leaving the Cleveland Cavaliers to play in Miami, the Heat became the overwhelming favorites to win the NBA Championship. Add Chris Bosh and several other key free agents and the Heat are now the New York Yankees of the NBA.
Winning a championship may not be that easy for the Heat, as they will have to go up against Dirk Nowitzki and the red-hot Dallas Mavericks. The Mavericks have had a great season and are looking to bring their first championship to the Lone Star state.
After blazing through the Western Conference playoffs, including a sweep of the defending champion Los Angeles Lakers, the Mavs are playing with confidence.
This should be one great series. You can follow all the first half action of Game 1 here with live scoring updates and comments.
