The NBA lockout has not stopped rumors and speculation among fans and social media sites, but of course no deals can even be discussed between teams until a new deal is signed between the owners and players.
The latest rumor in the league has the LA Lakers sending Lamar Odom and Matt Barnes to the Detroit Pistons for Rodney Stuckey, Jason Maxiell, and Terrico White. The trade would help both teams with needs and it fits under the salary cap for both squads.
The Lakers are in desperate need of a younger point guard and Stuckey would become an instant starter in Los Angeles. Maxiell would add some toughness and give the Lakers some depth in the front-court in place of Odom.
Detroit would get a big name player and some much-needed scoring in the paint. The Pistons are a perimeter team and they need to add a low post scorer if they want to contend for the playoffs. Barnes would be a perfect fit in the Eastern Conference with his tough defense and would add some depth to a team in need of quality players.
The Lakers seem set on making a trade with Odom and they need to get some back-court help in return. Trades like this are well thought out and makes sense for both teams and it will improve both teams for the upcoming season. The Pistons need to make fans excited again and landing a big name like Odom will put fans in the seats and give the team some confidence after a few disappointing seasons.
