2011 NHL Trade Rumors – Cory Schneider to Toronto Maple Leafs?

The NHL has just finished the first month of the 2011-12 season, and several teams are discovering that they now have holes in their roster, and if they want to continue as playoff contenders, making a deal before the trade deadline will be necessary.

The latest from Bleacher Report has Cory Schneider of the Vancouver Canucks being traded and the Toronto Maple Leafs as one of the teams that would make a deal for the young goalie. Toronto went into the season thinking they were set with a backup, but an injury to starter James Reimer has hurt the team, and making a change for someone who can keep the team moving forward is a must if the Maple Leafs want to end their long streak of missing the NHL playoffs.

Schneider is playing behind Roberto Luongo in Vancouver and becoming a starter is a few years away, but dealing Schneider could bring the Canucks some much-needed depth as the team is struggling in the early part of the year. With a 16-4 record last season and a terrific 2.23 goals against average, the 25-year-old would be a welcome sight to Toronto fans.

The Maple Leafs have never been shy about making deals, and finding a backup goalie who can give the team some confidence on the ice is a definite need for the team. Look for the front office to address this need before the trade deadline in hopes that the team continues its winning ways and makes a run at the playoffs.
