Daniel Alfredsson has had a tremendous career in the NHL, but his days as a Ottawa Senator are close to being over as the team is looking to trade the veteran and add some youth to begin rebuilding for the future.
The latest from Bleacher report has the Edmonton Oilers as a team with high interest, as the team has gotten off to a hot start, but Edmonton is very young and in need of a veteran to help the team through the long season.
Alfredsson has been great with younger players in Ottawa and though the veteran wants to stay with the Senators, both parties could benefit with the change. Edmonton has plenty of good young players to use in a deal and the Oilers desperately need a point man to run their power plays and his playoff experience would immediately help the young squad.
Ottawa will need to decide before the trade deadline on what direction the team wants to head in the future. And if the team wants to rebuild through youth, look for Edmonton to make a run at the veteran as they look to make the NHL playoffs for the first time in several years.
