The New York Islanders surprised everyone last year when the club picked up Evgeni Nabokov off the NHL waiver wire and most insiders believed it was for a future trade and not a long-term deal for the club.
Two weeks into the season and the rumors have started again about the veteran goalie and now there is some merit to these rumors. Nabokov appeared in his first game for the NY Islanders and several NHL scouts attended the contest, including scouts from the Columbus Blue Jackets, who have started the season slowly after adding several veterans this off-season.
Columbus needs to shake things up a bit after their slow start and adding a veteran goaltender might be the best answer for the team. ESPN reported that a deal could happen before the leagues trade deadline, but teams around the league would need to see the veteran play. If Nabokov can show he still has what other teams want, look for Columbus and other NHL teams to start calling the Islanders front office in the near future.
