Aaron Rodgers was on the sidelines, and Brett Favre was…well somewhere. Green Bay is rich in NFL history, especially at quarterback, but today backup Matt Flynn set a record for a lifetime against the Detroit Lions. The Packers backup QB threw for a Packer single game record six touchdowns and 480 passing yards. Now that’s a way to make an impression off the bench!
The final numbers on this game almost resemble a basketball game.
Flynn led the Pack over Matthew Stafford and the Lions 45-41, helping Green Bay finish the 2011 NFL season at 15-1. Stafford had a great game himself, throwing for 520 yards with five touchdowns in the loss.
The Lions are postseason bound, but now odds are that they will face the New Orleans Saints and the red-hot Drew Brees. Not the ideal situation when you are making your first postseason appearance in over a decade.
The 2011 post season schedule will be finalized tonight when the winner of the NY Giants vs. Dallas Cowboys game is decided.
