2k11 Dominating on Twitter – But Why?

Sports video games don’t often reach the hype level that NBA 2K11 has reached.  Usually this much buzz is reserved for Madden Football and non sports titles.  But this year it’s different.

This is the story on Kotaku: NBA 2K11 Records A Dominating Performance — On Twitter.

Not only is the game setting unprecedented trend levels for a sports video game, but according to Amazon it’s outselling Halo Reach on the PS3 and XBox.  For the non gamers out there, believe it, that’s a big deal.

Part of the reason may be that the tweeters include Snoop Dogg, 50 Cent and ESPN, amongst other well known names.  Part of the reason may be that Michael Jordan is back in a basketball video game for the first time in a long time.  Part of the reason may be that EA put its 2010 basketball title (NBA Elite 11) on hold.  Part of the reason may be the game is so good.

What would Da Coach say (Coach Ditka)?  “It’s gotta be MJ!”
