’50 Shades of Grey’ Movie: Alexander Skarsgard No Longer Up for Christian Grey Role?

The 50 Shades of Grey movie perhaps could not get a more perfect specimen than Alexander Skarsgard to play the billionaire business tycoon with the risqué after-hours endeavors, Christian Grey–at least according to many fans. Even the casual observer might be taken with the hunk-star’s hot Swedish looks, his commanding stature and carved physique, and his chiseled facial features–all of which ooze of Grey-dom.

Not convinced? Just reference his intense vampire role in True Blood, or better yet, his powerfully provocative, long-form commercial for the Calvin Klein Encounter fragrance campaign. The steamy piece, shrouded in shadows and sultry tension, could pass as the actor’s mini-audition for the film adaptation of E.L. James’ best-selling, erotic read.

But Skarsgard himself may not be feeling 50 Shades of Grey anymore or at all. He’s apparently ready to leave the heavier stuff behind and walk on a lighter side, which certainly doesn’t seem to bode well for his Grey casting prospects. As Just Jared reports, the actor recently told the L.A. Times, “I need to find something with Danny McBride or Will Ferrell, something like that. I need a comedy. I need something fun.”

Some may even find the scandalous tome and its questionable writing style quite comedic at that. However, it’s definitely not a Ferrell flick by any stretch of the imagination!

However, should Alexander Skarsgard beat out the other bold names being flung around (some of the ones being used in the same sentence as Christian Grey include Henry Cavill, Ian Somerhalder, Matt Bomer, Ryan Gosling and a relative newbie on the list, Jake Gyllenhaal), perhaps he may reconsider his next professional move and work his dramatic angles once again for the lucrative role. There’s no doubt he could be a compelling counterpart to the actress who snatches up the spotlight as Anastasia Steele.

After all, he could always have a Blades of Glory moment post-Grey or hang out with The Other Guys at a later time.
