’50 Shades of Grey’ Movie Coming Next Summer: Does E. L. James Want Ian Somerhalder?

The 50 Shades of Grey movie still doesn’t have a set release date yet, but at least fans now have some idea of when the film will finally hit theaters. So does an update on the status of the movie mean that fans will soon find out whether or not Ian Somerhalder has been cast as Christian Grey?

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Universal Pictures chairman Adam Fogelson recently revealed that the 50 Shades movie could hit theaters as soon as next summer. He also said that the search for a director is on, but that Angelina Jolie is out—she’ll be busy directing another Universal movie. However, Fogelson dished that Universal has been having some “really, really interesting, great conversations with talented, serious filmmakers.” Perhaps one of those filmmakers was Breaking Dawn director Bill Condon. There have been whispers that he’s a favorite for the job.

The 50 Shades of Grey movie producers have said over and over again that casting talks won’t take place until the screenplay is finished and a director is chosen, but perhaps author E. L. James dropped a hint that a certain actor already has an edge over his competition. On Tuesday, Twitter user BookishTemptations tweeted a photo of Ian Somerhalder wearing a masquerade mask along with the message, “All I can see of his face is his beautiful chiseled mouth and strong jaw.” E. L. James replied to the tweet with a grinning emoticon.

James certainly needs to show Ian a little love. Fans have been getting impatient about the casting of the 50 Shades movie, and they might have started to lose interest in the project if Ian didn’t insist on talking about it all the time. He’s kept 50 Shades in the headlines and has kept Fifty fans smiling by making comments about building his own sex dungeon and by autographing and auctioning off his copy of 50 Shades. He really seems to love the book, and fans love him for loving the book. It would be hard for the 50 Shades producers to find a better Christian Grey.

So are you happy that the 50 Shades movie finally got a release date, and do you think that this means that there will be casting news soon?
