’50 Shades of Grey’ Movie: Could Alexis Bledel Take On Role of Anastasia Steele?

The 50 Shades of Grey movie madness continues, but this time, it’s all about the girl, not the guy, who should land the part as Anastasia Steele to the Hollywood hunk, still to be determined, who will play Christian Grey. (Matt Bomer, The Vampire Diaries’ Ian Somerhalder and even Henry Cavill have all been at the top of the hottie pack–for now.) It seems like casting decisions for the film adaptation of E.L. James erotic read are still a long time off, but the speculation continues to carry on at a feverish level. However, the latest PYT pitch for Steele may be a bit unexpected–or not.

She’s the semi-quirky, serious but witty, brunette beauty who rose to attention on the former hit TV series, Gilmore Girls. Now Alexis Bledel is all grown up and way past her high school days in Stars Hollow. And, apparently, she’s not opposed to starring in 50 Shades, unlike some young starlets who have handily denied they’re interested, such as Emma Watson and Elizabeth Olsen.

“Wow, I see lots of you want me to play [the part of] Ana in 50 Shades of Grey… :)” Bledel posted on her Facebook and Twitter pages, as a way of acknowledging her fans backing her for the part; the smiley face obviously signaling she’s not opposed to her name being used in the same sentence as the best-selling book. And her supportive followers may have a point on this Grey matter.

So Bledel certainly fits the bill from a purely physical standpoint–from her alabaster complexion to those shocking “Steele” blue eyes, which are always so unique to see on a brunette. Plus, the actress is slightly more obscure than marquee names like Kristen Stewart (who seems a long shot at this point anyway), which could be a boon. It may be difficult to cast someone like Stewart for such a strong role, as she is currently still so closely defined by her vampire days as Bella Swan in The Twilight Saga–or, now, by her off-screen cheating scandal.

Alexis Bledel may just have all the right things going for her; she’s got the look, a manageable but not over-the-top level of renown, not to mention the personality and vibe–a mix of naïvete, quirkiness and smart schoolgirl charm–for the lucrative role as Anastasia Steele.
