’50 Shades of Grey’ Movie: E.L. James Comments on Casting

The 50 Shades of Grey movie casting reports just won’t quit, so author E.L. James recently made an attempt to get overzealous fans to chill out by letting them know that there’s still plenty of time for them to debate about who should play Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey.

The author has been careful not to drop any names, although she did say that she doesn’t want Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson in the movie. She’s probably tired of people tweeting questions to her about the 50 Shades film casting – if Twitter users want to talk about that, they need to start following author Bret Easton Ellis.

So to get fans to quit pestering her about the 50 Shades of Grey movie, E.L. James recently tweeted this:

I am not making any comments on casting the movie. No one is ruled out or in yet – far too early.

However, apparently it wasn’t too early to inform Ellis that he can’t write the screenplay – according to the American Psycho author, he’s already been told that he’s been kicked off the list of potential screenwriters.

James probably also felt the need to step in and say something because Fifty fans are starting to get very attached to their top choices to play Christian Grey. Many fans came to the defense of favorite Matt Bomer when Bret Easton Ellis said that he shouldn’t get the part because he’s gay, while others are holding out hope that Ian Somerhalder wins the role after he said that he’s interested in it. There are also fans campaigning for William Levy, Jessie Pavelka, and Alexander Skarsgard.

Meanwhile Katie Cassidy, Emilia Clarke, and Alexis Bledel have emerged as favorites to play Anastasia Steele. However, right now Fifty fans seem to be more interested in who gets cast as Christian.

What’s probably really driving fans crazy is that they know that E.L. James already has some actors and actresses in mind for the parts, and she just won’t reveal who they are. Perhaps she’ll finally give in and reveal some of her picks once there’s actually a screenplay, but that doesn’t mean that they’ll get the parts – Stephenie Meyer’s original choices for Twilight were Emily Browning and Henry Cavill.

So do you think that the 50 Shades movie speculation will slow down now that James has said something, or will Fifty fans continue to get feverish about the identity of the man that will play Christian Grey?
