’50 Shades of Grey’ Movie: Henry Cavill’s Reps Respond to Rumors

The 50 Shades of Grey movie just lost one of its biggest favorites.

During an interview with Details, Man of Steel star Henry Cavill hinted that he might be interested in playing Christian Grey when he responded to a question about starring in the 50 Shades movie by saying, “Whether that happens, that decision will be made at the time it has to be made.”

This comment makes it seem like Henry is mulling the idea over, and who could blame him for considering the role? Whoever gets cast as Christian is probably going to make a pretty penny, and what guy wouldn’t want to get paid for filming tons of racy sex scenes with a beautiful actress?

However, now Entertainmentwise is reporting that Henry Cavill’s reps were quick to deny rumors that he’s up for the role.

Based on Henry’s response, it sounds like he’s open to starring in the 50 Shades of Grey movie, but perhaps his reps don’t think it’s a good career move. So why wouldn’t they want him to play Christian Grey?

It could have something to do with Henry playing Superman. Man of Steel hits theaters next summer, and geeks are very protective of their superheroes They might not like the idea of Clark Kent moonlighting as an erotic novel star with a sex dungeon and millions of screaming female fans—it would be a bit like Robert Pattinson getting cast as the next Batman. So news of Henry being cast as Christian could actually hurt Man of Steel.

There’s also a possibility that Henry’s Superman might appear in the Justice League movie. If this happens, the actor might be too busy and too successful to bother with playing Christian Grey. In addition to his superhero obligations, Henry is also set to star in the 2014 movie The Great Wall.

There is one way Henry could still be a Christian contender. If Man of Steel flops, then his reps could be begging the 50 Shades producers for an audition next summer. However, it might be too late by then—Kelly Marcel is about to start writing the screenplay, and once it’s finished, real casting talks can begin.

On the bright side of things, fans of Matt Bomer and Ian Somerhalder can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that their top choices just lost some tough competition for the role.
