’50 Shades of Grey’ Movie: Lucy Hale Favored to Play Anastasia Steele

The 50 Shades of Grey movie has a new frontrunner for the role of Anastasia Steele—sorry, Emma Watson and Alexis Bledel!

RyanSeacrest.com recently conducted a poll to see who 50 Shades fans most want to see as Ana, the naïve college student whose awkward ways are based on the character Bella from the Twilight books. But instead of going for Kristen Stewart or K-Stew lookalikes, fans seem to favor actresses who look innocent and fresh with big, beautiful eyes and a sweet softness about them.

The frontrunner in the poll is Pretty Little Liars star Lucy Hale, who became a contender when she actually expressed an interest in starring in the movie. She leads the poll with 21 percent of the vote over an actress with a similar look—Alexis Bledel is extremely close with 19 percent.

At first it seems like 50 Shades of Grey fans definitely have a set type when it comes to who they want to play Anastasia Steele, but then Katie Cassidy finishes third in the poll with 17 percent of the vote. She’s a little sexier and less innocent-looking than Lucy Hale and Alexis, so it’s surprising that she snuck in there. Plus some fans think she would make a better Kate Kavanagh.

The list returns back to beautiful, sweet-looking brunettes with Nina Dobrev getting 10 percent of the vote. She probably would get a little more love if she hadn’t said that she wouldn’t star in the movie if her boyfriend Ian Somerhalder got cast as Christian Grey.

Emma Watson only got 9 percent of the vote, probably because Harry Potter fans would be devastated if she got cast in the movie.

Lucy would be thrilled to know that she tops all of these actresses as the surprising favorite to play Ana right now. Some Pretty Little Liars fans might have a hard time imagining her as anyone else but Aria, but Lucy probably wants to show the world that she can do more than a soap opera-ish TV show. She hasn’t starred in many movies, so landing the role would definitely be a very big deal for her.

What do you think—does Lucy deserve to be the favorite, or do the Fifty Shades fans voting on Ryan Seacrest’s site have it all wrong?
