’50 Shades of Grey’ Movie: Matt Bomer Gets More Support After Bret Easton Ellis’ Rant

The 50 Shades of Grey movie has gotten a lot of attention from author Bret Easton Ellis, who recently tweeted that Matt Bomer is incapable of playing possessive BDSM-practicing billionaire Christian Grey—Ellis originally said that the White Collar actor shouldn’t get the role because he’s gay.

This only made Matt’s fans rally around him more, according to Books & Review. His supporters responded by taking to Twitter to let Bret know just how wrong they think he is. And it’s not just fans who think that he’d be great—this message was posted on the official White Collar Twitter page:

“We think he’d be great. RT @buzzfocus: Would Matt Bomer playing Christian Grey in ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ be ludicrous?”

And now Bret Easton Ellis has decided to change his tune because of the backlash he has experienced for trying to say that a gay actor can’t play Mr. Grey. Here’s what he recently tweeted:

“You know what? I changed my mind: I now think a gay actor HAS GOT to play Christian Grey. It’s IMPERATIVE that someone gay plays him…

“Let’s destroy the bullsh*t stereotypes of Hollywood studio moviemaking and cast a gay actor as Christian Grey in ’50 Shades of Grey.’ A win.

“But I still don’t think Matt Bomer should play the role.”

So while he still doesn’t think that Matt is the best choice, at least he sort of admitted that he is wrong about a gay actor not being able to play the role (it’s debatable whether that first tweet of his was serious—it seems just a tad sarcastic). And now here’s an interesting question—which openly gay actors besides Matt could play Christian?

The Avengers star Chris Evans has made a few lists of favorites for the role, but what about his brother Scott Evans? The openly gay actor isn’t quite as big of a star as his brother, but he does have plenty of acting experience after working on One Life to Live since 2008. There’s also Brothers & Sisters star Luke Macfarlane, and one wild card would be Josh Strickland—while the former American Idol contestant who went on to star on the reality show Holly’s World doesn’t have any movie experience, he has starred in the Broadway play Tarzan.

So are there any other gay actors who you think could play Christian Grey?
