The 50 Shades of Grey film phenomenon was deflated just a bit when the book’s author E.L. James recently quashed any and all the casting rumors as to which actor and actress will take on the lucrative roles of Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele. But despite her hush-hush stance, the marvel of the movie adaptation for the erotic, best-selling read has caught fire once again, captivating fans and even Hollywood alike with daily buzz and conjecture about the forthcoming flick. Now some of the whispers surrounding the movie have transitioned from which set of hunks are on the short list to take on the role of Grey to actually imagining said actors as really reading lines from the titillating tome.
Policymic played the quote game with Man of Steel‘s Henry Cavill, whose Superman super-powers have put him as a frontrunner. But the more interesting spin on this little line-by-line fantasy is with the hot-stuff actor from White Collar, Matt Bomer. He certainly has the chiseled face (and body) and the steely, cerulean eyes that align perfectly with the vision of Grey. Plus, he has a bit of boyish charm mixed in with his powerfully sizzling presence that would add a lighter edge–at least, appearance-wise–to the rolling-in-money business tycoon. But can he stand up to the risqué, suggestive and sometimes borderline cheesy sentences from 50 Shades of Grey?
American Psycho‘s Bret Easton Ellis would absolutely say he hasn’t a chance in the world. The author has infamously said Bomer is too gay for Grey. But it seems his alternative personal lifestyle could give him a new and interesting perspective for the role–one that may even be more effective than his straight counterparts the likes of Cavill, Alexander Skarsgard, Ryan Gosling and Ian Somerhalder.
Not to mention, none of Bomer’s crush of fans seem the least bit worried that he couldn’t effectively manage the passionate part of Christian Grey. Policymic has even taken it so far as to have him figuratively run the lines, as the site posts smoldering photos of Bomer alongside the quotes.
From romantic (“I lay awake for hours and watched you sleep.. I might have loved you even then.”) to raunchy (“Let me ask you something, do you want regular vanilla?”) and weird (“I do believe your making my palm twitch.”), not to mention plenty of ridiculous sentences, Bomer might just have the chops to put his big boy pants on–or take them off, as the case may be–and channel the ultimate Christian Grey.
