I am reposting this poem for all those who hurt on Fathers Day for what they didn’t have or don’t have in their lives. I wrote this and posted it back in 2008 for Sandra L when her father passed away.
A Life Chapter is Over
By Heather L Campbell
January 29, 2008
Inspired by Sandra L.’s article
Sandra, you are in my thoughts and prayers!
Mourn for the father who went his way
Mourn for the father who died today
Mourn for him, the good and the bad
Mourn for all the things you never had
Tears over the times that will never be
Tears you cried that he will never see
How did he not know how your heart ached?
How could he not know how it would break?
Why couldn’t he live up to his God given name?
Why wasn’t being a Father part of his game?
There’s so many questions but so little time
They rush and circle around in your mind.
This chapter of your life is over and done
The opportunity’s gone and nobody won
Grieve for the years that he had no clue
Grieve for the love that he didn’t give you
Grieve for the man who lost everything
When he missed the gift your love would bring.
