A Silent Ocean Away is the first novel in the trilogy ColletteÂ’s Dominion by by DeVa Gantt. DeVa Gantt is the pseudonym for the two sisters Debra and Valerie Gantt, who worked together on this brilliant story over many years.

A Silent Ocean Away is a magnificent result of the sistersÂ’ hard work, and the novel captured and held my attention from beginning to end. The intriguing story of Charmaine Ryan, a young woman who is left to fend for herself in the 1820s in Richmond, VA, develops into a story of hope and mysterious events. When Charmaine gets a position as a chaperone with a well-off family, the experience shapes her into a young woman with great manners and knowledge.

When she leaves the country to seek employment as a governess in the Caribbean, Charmaine is led on a journey through self-discovery, while she discovers secrets and scandals that haunt and separate the family she works for.

The novel is written with such great attention to detail, that it is almost impossible to put it down. I treasured every word of this well-written and captivating novel, and I am looking forward to reading the subsequent novels in the trilogy. In fact, I had a very difficult time picking up another book after closing A Silent Ocean Away, as the story  kept unfolding in my mind and made me hungry for more.

I can highly recommend A Silent Ocean Away to any lovers of romance and/or historical fiction, as this is a treasure that will always have a special place in my book collection.
