Bicycling To Battle Ground

Bicycling to Battle Ground

Barreling down the farm roads

Trekking to this cattle town

To buy books by the arm load

From a tiny used book store

Hidden behind the dairy

Scouring the shelves to look for

New treasures literary

Classic stories by the mile

With titles floor to ceiling

Even more books line the aisle

Enchanting and appealing

Prizes chosen prayerfully

In paper-bound and hardback

Wrapped and tied down carefully

Onto my handlebar rack

Filling up my Gatorade

I swing into the saddle

An excursion tailor-made

To leave behind the battle

Bright blue sky and whisp’ring trees

Fill up my heart like leaven

Dappled horses, crisp spring breeze

A little slice of heaven
