Adam Lambert on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno

The musical guest on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno was last year’s American Idol runner up, Adam Lambert.  Even though as a rule I’m a fan of neither Jay Leno nor American Idol, I like Adam’s music and his attitude.

Adam isn’t afraid to be himself regardless of the consequences.  Even though there was a bit of controversy after the openly out and proud Lambert kissed a bass player in his band on national television on the American Music Awards and he was asked to withdraw from a planned Good Morning America performance as a result, overall the consequences have been great.

When Lambert was asked about the kiss on a recent appearance on BBC America’s Friday Night with Jonathan Ross, he replied that “it was just a spur of the moment thing.  I’m not a babysitter, I’m a singer.”

Lambert’s remarks then led Ross to compare the kiss to that of Britney Spears and Madonna and to say “why is it okay to see this on television and not two guys kissing?”  Or to offer up a more recent example the kiss between Meryl Streep and Sandra Bullock.

For the record, I really don’t think it matters whether a performer…or anyone else for that matter…is gay or straight.  In the music industry it should only matter whether or not a musician makes good music that people want to listen to.  And Adam does.

Since he came is second on American Idol we’ve heard more about Adam than we have about the actual winner Kris Allen.  I know what you’re thinking…Kris who?

On Leno tonight Adam performed “If I Had You”, the newest single from his album For Your Entertainment.  And he did so in fabulous fashion I might add with sparkly pants and a probably half a dozen backup dancers and his band to back him up.

In my opinion, “If I Had You” was a great choice for the next single especially given the success of “Whataya Want From Me.”

Adam also has a summer tour coming up…don’t worry Adam, I’ll be there and so will legions of other fans…for most of the tour fellow American Idol contestant Allison Iraheta will be the opening act but singer/songwriter Orianthi will also be performing with Adam on selected dates.
