Somy Ali’s New York Times interview has caused quite a stir, particularly when it comes to what she had to say about her relationship with Salman Khan. But it’s her revelation about one of Salman’s other relationships that had readers raising their eyes. Ms. Ali stated that in fact it was Aishwarya Rai who caused the breakup of her and Salman Khan’s long relationship.

Somy went to Mumbai to become an actress in order to meet Salman, and she managed to do just that. She and Salman were in love, and they dated for eight years. She indicated in her interview that she and Salman would have ended up getting married. This was not a secret relationship, and it wasn’t a shallow one either. So what happened to break their relationship up?

Salman fell in love with the beautiful young actress and began seeing her while he and Somy Ali were still together. Aishwarya had to have known this. There was simply no way she wouldn’t have known that her handsome, charming new boyfriend was already committed to another woman.

Somy Ali showed maturity beyond her years by leaving Salman over the affair. She realized that while he may still love her, he would never be faithful to her, even after they were married. And so she returned to the US.

Of course everyone knows what happened next–Salman and Aishwarya had a tumultuous relationship that included accusations of physical abuse, and Aishwarya left him, going on to date Vivek Oberoi and then marrying Abhishek Bachchan. At the end of her relationship with Salman Khan, Aishwarya managed to be seen as the good girl, and Salman was labeled a bad boy.

But considering Somy Ali’s new revelations, perhaps Aishwarya and Salman should be seen the other way around? Of course Salman gets no credit for cheating, but shouldn’t Aishwarya have been more wary of getting involved with a nearly married man?
