Aishwarya Rai and Kareena Kapoor: ‘Heroine’ Actresses to Face Off at Cannes

No sooner had Aishwarya Rai been confirmed to appear at the Cannes Film Festival than the press began salivating over a possible red carpet confrontation with Kareena Kapoor.

It’s an interesting coincidence, to be sure: Last year at Cannes Aishwarya appeared with Madhur Bhandarkar to launch Heroine. This year Madhur and Kareena will be at Cannes to premier the same film, with Kareena having taken over the role from Aishwarya after Aish became pregnant and was booted from the project.

It will be Bebo’s first time premiering a film at Cannes. Aishwarya had the same a decade ago when she appeared with Shahrukh Khan for a special screening of Devdas, which was the first Hindi film to be screened at the festival.

How juicy is the possibility of the two actresses coming face to face? Considering how remarkably catty Kareena has been towards Aishwarya throughout the Heroine fiasco it’s hard not to get somewhat excited about the prospect of them being thrown together at its premiere. It probably won’t happen, since no publicist on earth would allow their client to be upstaged at such a big event. And while Aishwarya is the Indian face of Cannes, there’s no doubt that Bebo can bring it. Aishwarya always looks glamorous at the event but there’s an unmistakable “aunty” quality about her these days (thanks of course to her recently becoming a mother to Beti B/Aaradhya), and style-wise she won’t want to risk coming in second to Kareena.

What will be interesting is whether or not Aishwarya attends the screening of Heroine. She can hardly be accused of having a friendly relationship with Madhur Bhandarkar, but considering it’d be her only chance to see the film until September (when it officially releases) she may want to see how her backup turned out. up to date with the latest, breaking news about Aishwarya: subscribe to Aishwarya Rai News on Facebook today!
