Aishwarya Rai Receives Fresh Insults Over Her Baby Weight

Shilpa Shetty gave birth to a son two months ago and has already dropped most of the weight she gained during her pregnancy. But rather than congratulating her for reaching her goal and leaving it at that, the media has decided to use this information to deliver backhanded insults to Aishwarya Rai. the most part, discussion over Aishwarya’s figure had ceased. Yes, every once in a while a publication might refer to Aish “toning up” in anticipation of a new film role, and Kareena Kapoor had a snide comment or two to make a few weeks back, but in general the furor over Aishwarya’s weight has gone down (thanks in part to an interview or two of hers where she seemed completely unbothered by any criticism). And of course she’s been making a few public appearances here and there and looks better and better each time she’s spotted.

Aishwarya is getting in shape at her own pace and doesn’t give a damn about what society thinks her body ought to look like, something a recent Huffington Post article commended her for. But for some, her refusal to appear svelte immediately after having a baby is something to make fun of. Shilpa Shetty’s weight loss is being used to insult Aishwarya, with headlines congratulating Shilpa for looking good, “unlike Aishwarya.”

Now the obvious reason for this comparison is that newspapers want readers, and while very few people want to read about Shilpa Shetty, everyone wants to read about Aishwarya. So linking the two guarantees readers. But insults like this are also seen as safe—”oh we were just talking about how they’re different is all!” they’ll say. It’s a way of making fun of Aish without directly making fun of her.

And it’s incredibly pathetic. up to date with the latest, breaking news about Aishwarya: subscribe to Aishwarya Rai News on Facebook today!
