Amelia Lily has continued the trend of past years of runners-up in the X Factor going on to have successful music careers and Amelia Lily gets record deal worth £500,000 with the company that made Girls Aloud a UK sensation.

Amelia Lily came third in the competition, with Marcus Collins in second place. The winners were Little Mixx, a four piece girl group who are the first group ever to win the UK X Factor and beating the bookies odds.

This isn’t the first time that a runner-up on the X Factor has gone on to have a successful career in music, so this will come as no surprise to people who follow the show. JLS, One Direction and Cher Lloyd are all runners-up who have gone on to make an impact within the music industry.

What makes Amelia Lily stand out from earlier runners-up is that despite getting through the auditions and the judges houses stages of the competition, a new shock rule introduced this year meant that one person would be eliminated from each group–under 25 boys, under 25 girls, over 25s and groups–at the end of the first live performance. Unfortunately for Amelia Lily, she was the act in the girls group that the public voted out at this stage.

The drama of the 2011 series of X Factor didn’t end there. As bad boy Frankie Coccoza left the competition after several incidents involving his unruly behaviour, Simon Cowell decided to reinstate one act who had previously been eliminated in the first live performance and a public vote would decide this. Amelia got her second chance.

Despite all the ups and downs of the competition it looks like Amelia Lily has come out on top. Amelia Lily gets record deal? She deserves it.
