Just 12 hours after a TV Guide article leaked erroneous information, the American Idol 2012 top 5 song list is out, courtesy of the hit reality show’s official Twitter handle. Here’s a look at which tunes will be performed during tonight’s episode by the likes of Jessica Sanchez, Skylar Laine, Joshua Ledet, Hollie Cavanagh and Phillip Phillips.
One round of the hybrid-themed top 5 show is slated to feature a set of popular songs by British recording artists. Included in the mix are The Bee Gees’ “To Love Somebody”, “Time of the Season” by The Zombies, Leona Lewis’ “Bleeding Love”, Joe Cocker’s “You are so Beautiful”, and “You Don’t have to Love Me” by Dusty Springfield.
For the 1960s themed portion of the show, songs named are The Temptations’ “Ain’t Too Proud to Beg”, “River Deep, Mountain High” and “Proud Mary” from Ike and Tina Turner, Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Fortunate Son” and “The Letter” by The Box Tops.
Also making the list are two songs marked as “duet/trio”: Jackie Wilson’s “Higher and Higher” and The Righteous Brothers’ “You’ve Lost that Lovin’ Feeling”.
Although the songs aren’t yet matched up with the finalists slated to perform them, it’s always reasonable to make guesses. It seems unlikely that anyone but Joshua, the competition’s throwback guy, would deliver a Temptations tune. Either Jessica or Hollie could effectively belt “Bleeding Love”, courtesy of their powerful voices and typical vocal stylings.
