Last season, fans met Amy Farrah Fowler (Mayim Bialik) in the finale and she has continued on this season as the girl who is Sheldon’s (Jim Parsons) friend but not his girlfriend.  She’s perfect for him too–she’s the female Sheldon–and the moments of awkwardness that ensue when she’s around bring in laughs.

Michael Ausiello has reported that Mayim Bialik has been promoted on The Big Bang Theory to a series regular.  The series did the same thing for Melissa Rauch, who plays Bernadette, Howard’s (Simon Helberg) girlfriend, earlier this season.  Neither will necessarily be in every episode and it’s just for the current season.  Ausiello points out that the male to female ratio of series regulars is now getting closer to being even (four to three).  Just as Sheldon brings humor to the situation when out with the boys, Amy has brought many laughs this season, especially in the last episode during the girls night in with Penny (Kaley Cuoco) and Bernadette.  Not only did she rely on Wikipedia for what to do during slumber parties, she also brought up a question that fans may have been wondering about: will Penny get jealous if Leonard (Johnny Galecki) becomes involved in a serious relationship?  Though Amy and Sheldon have agreed that romance is not what either one of them is looking for, the awkwardness she brings when she doesn’t understand what should and should not be discussed in public has added to the comedy on this season of The Big Bang Theory has made her a hit so far and it’s good to see she’s going to be around for more.
