Angelina Jolie, who was an avid supporter of President Obama, says she’s disappointed in some of the things she’s seen from his job performance. It’s only fair to add that she also said “many wonderful things” have come out of this administration, but personally she’s disappointed in a few areas she’s not going to clarify now. She did however give an example when it came to helping foreign countries.
Angelina couldn’t elaborate too much on what those disappointments were at the time of this interview, as she was on the red carpet with little time to go into anything at great length. She’s interviewed while on her way into the Holocaust Museum for the première of her new movie “In the Land of Blood and Honey.” What Angelina did say made sense, more so than what’s come from many of the politicians these days.
As a goodwill ambassador, Angelina holds more experience than the average person about the many countries that the US dumps money into under the umbrella of foreign aid. Helping is a good thing, but she feels it’s a band-aid and there’s different ways of utilizing the money that would give more long-term help to the people in these countries. She conveys that the money should help in working with these countries to move towards becoming independent and this is not happening.

Angelina summed it up nicely referring to the old proverb, “If you buy the man a fish he will eat for a day, if you teach him how to fish he will eat for a lifetime.” The A-list star said that the US is basically buying them fish instead of teaching them how to fish and care for themselves. Spending the money differently would help in providing the people in these poverty-stricken countries with a future.
This is not just someone who is adding her two cents into the subject, Angelina is one of the few who can actually say they’ve been there and experienced first hand what is happening. She’s not an arm-chair-quarterback when it comes to this subject.
