Anime Director Satoshi Kon Dies at 47

The news of Satoshi Kon’s passing came via Twitter yesterday. Anime News Network was the first to report the story. The news has been confirmed on the Otakon web board this morning. The exact cause of death has yet to be determined but is believed to be cancer.

Satoshi Kon Directed Unique and Often Disturbing Films

Kon is famous for his films “Perfect Blue”, “Millennium Actress”, and “Paprika”. One of his most popular works was a TV show “Paranoia Agent”.This show aired on Adult Swim in the United States.

His works often blurred reality and fantasy. In one episode of “Paranoia Agent” two men and a child make a suicide pact. They try various ways to kill themselves but it isn’t clear if they are already dead.

Anime fans have reacted strongly to Kon’s passing. He is considered a master director and he is already missed. The strongest out pouring of affection can be seen on Twitter.
