Anne Hathaway Takes School Kids to the Oscars

Actress Ann Hathaway, co-host of the upcoming 2011 Oscars ceremony, has invited the fifth grade chorus of PS22 on Staten Island, New York, to come to the show. Not as guests, but as participants. The kids will sing on stage. This is a new approach for the classy and very professional – but often boring Academy Awards production. Family entertainment, all the way.

Thursday night, at the school’s annual Winter Program, a good time was had by all. The singing sounded great. Families gathered and applauded. And Anne Hathaway and friends dropped by for a listen – so the kids thought. Then Hathaway dropped her bombshell, along with 83rd Academy Award show telecast producers Bruce Cohen and Don Mischer – on the crowd, reports TalkMoviesworld.com. She invited the chorus to participate in the Oscars ceremony. The fifth grade kids, predictably, went bananas. It looks as if they will be winging their way across the country, since the Academy Awards telecast comes from Los Angeles, and these are New York kids. Don’t they have elementary schools in L.A.?

PS22 Chorus Seasoned Performers

It turns out, Anne Hathaway will share the stage with some savvy kids. These fifth graders, continues TalkMoviesworld.com, have some show biz seasoning. At least, their director does. Gregg Breinberg’s sixty-strong chorus of eleven-year-olds (more or less) has been well known since 2000, and they have performed in locales from Radio City Music Hall and “Good Morning, America” to the White House. But this is their farthest-away gig. And it’s a sure bet the same singers have not been held over in fifth grade for ten years, so Breinberg deserves a lot of the ongoing credit.

Anne Hathaway, Oscar Host

Hathaway, along with James Franco, will host the Oscar production, and she may think she needs the wholesome presence of children to tone down the spicy remarks that will be zinging, regarding her latest movie. The “Love and Other Drugs” star has been taking a lot of heat – and expectations are high – over a film with much more than the occasional bit of nudity. Tune in.
