Appomattox Day: Civil War Battle Re-enacted

On Appomattox Day, the Civil War battle of Cold Harbor was re-enacted near the surrender at Appomattox Court House. The event was part of the “The Long Road Home” event that will lead up to the 150th anniversary of the Confederate Surrender, which will be in 2015.

The Appomattox Day re-enactment event was on Saturday and Sunday, April 9 and 10, in Virginia. The Appomattox County Historical Society has planned the event, and hopes that the community will come out and learn more about the Civil War battles that took place in their area.

Buddy Conner, President of the Appomattox County Historical Society said:

WeÂ’re really doing it as a benefit to the town of Appomattox, the county of Appomattox. WeÂ’re also doing it because this is where our states were reunited. The people that show up here will have a great experience.

The event sounds like it will be amazing. People who attend the event will actually be able to interact with the soldiers by visiting them in the hospital. While the Civil War was an incredibly tragic part of U.S. history, it is still an important part.

Have you ever gone to or participated in Civil War re-enactments?
