The Arabian Horse Foundation has established a scholarship fund in memory of late actor Patrick Swayze and his wife Lisa Niemi. Swayze and his wife both owned and showed Arabian horses. The Arabian Horse Foundation is the charitable arm of the Denver based Arabian Horse Association.
The Foundation’s President Larry Kinneer, said Friday the scholarship “creates a lasting testimony to their careers in dancing, theater and movies, love of the Arabian breed and contributions over the years to AHA youth programs.”
The scholarship will be awarded every spring to a young person involved with Arabian horses who hopes to have a career in performing arts.
Swayze died in September after a long and widely published battle with pancreatic cancer at the age 57. He is best know for playing dance instructor Johnny Castle in the 1987 movie Dirty Dancing. Swayze also sang “shes like the wind” on the films soundtrack . He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Lisa Niemi.
