Friday night, Josh & I had our first North End date. After much deliberation, I settled on Assaggio as our restaurant of choice.
The bread they put on the table was good – I like how they put a container of parmesan cheese on the table to add to the olive oil – but not the best I’ve had.
Friends had raved about the bruschetta, but seeing as how we already had bread, and Josh isn’t a huge fan of bruschetta, we instead shared a regular garden salad. Good, but nothing to write home about.
For our meals, Josh ordered the Pollo Pizzaiola – which is chicken lightly floured in a spicy marinara sauce.
I, surprise surprise, ordered Penne in a Vodka Marinara Sauce (my favorite!), which comes with cherry tomatoes, and I added spicy Italian sausage. So good! Totally looking forward to having my leftovers for dinner tonight.
The food was very good, and the service was really great, but the restaurant was way too loud – we could barely hear what each other was saying. I think next time, we’ll be trying Al Dente.
For dessert, we of course hit up Mike’s Pastry and got 1 huge chocolate chip cannoli, 2 rainbow cookies and 2 raspberry rugelach (for those who don’t know, rugelach is a typical Jewish dessert, so I was surprised to find it here!).
