At This Moment, I Wonder (A Poem)

Sitting by her bedside

I held tightly to her hand

There was no movement at all

I wondered if she could feel me holding her

Her eyes were wide open

There was a void about them

I leaned over her for a moment

I wondered if she could see me

I whispered in her ear

Something that I did often

Just to let her know I am there

I wondered if she could hear me

There was a chill in the room

I grabbed the extra blanket

And gently pulled it over her

I wondered if she felt the warmth

I tell her that I love her

And that I miss her dearly

I say it over and over

I wonder if she knows how I feel

Her motionless body

Reminds me of what was

How I wish she was still here

I wonder if she will ever return to me
