I waited for a ride with obscurity at the taxi stand

My shoes were having a heat stroke and in need of a moisturizer

And my billfold was starving for a lunch at Sardis

The street pulsed with unkindness like a stranger’s glance

Suddenly a gust of wind whispered in my ear

And I knew I had reached the end of some assignment

The cab approached like a yellow hearse coming for a corpse

As we left, the cab shuddered and moaned with fatigue

Like it was on its last legs and needed a rest

“Where to”? barked the overworked cabbie in a middle-eastern voice

“I want to watch the trees breathe and hear a babbling brook”

I need to reach Nirvana before the sun collapses with fatigue”

The cabbie said, “Hold on, this cab is a chariot of the gods”

Like the shadow of a cheetah we accelerated into the abyss

As we passed the moon, it winked with a sly grin
