It looks like the Avengers 2 movie release date could be set for less than 3 years from now, with Joss Whedon returning to director. With that in mind, many fans and websites are already forming ideas of the possible plot and villains the superheroes that will be included.
According to a new report from ContactMusic.com, the new Marvel sequel is anticipated for a May 1, 2015 release date. They’re also saying that Joss Whedon may have already developed a “template for the storyline.” According to one source who talked to MTV News:
“Marvel has a very set agenda of what they want to do, they are already kind of ahead of the game [on the sequel] because they’ve got the guy that did it before doing it again and something tells me Joss already has the template [for the film].”
Several of the major cast members aren’t going to be available to get this film out any sooner. That’s because Thor 2: The Dark World and Iron Man 3 are coming next year, while Captain America: The Winter Soldier is coming in 2014. So those latest individual Marvel hero films will precede the bigger sequel of The Avengers 2. Robert Downey Jr’s third trek as Iron Man will likely be the most successful outings of the three, but it’ll be interesting to see how Thor and the Captain do at the box office.
So who will take Loki’s place as the big villain for the film? The ComicBook.com website speculates on five possibilities. They speculate that Thanos will once again look to wage war on Earth or the Avengers team, but he’ll likely get help from another villain. It could be Mephisto, Kang the Conqueror, Ultron, The Other, or Grandmaster. Any of these menacing villains could come into play for the movie sequel, but it’s going to be a little while before movie goers and comic fans will learn who it is.
Which new villain would you most like to see in The Avengers 2, or would you prefer to see Loki make a return?
