Now that Bachelor Ben Flajnik and his final rose recipient, Courtney Robertson, have broken up, they’re both trying to a) stay in the spotlight and b) bad-mouth the other in a bid for public sympathy. Courtney just gave an interview to Us Weekly in which she says she felt “brainwashed” during the show’s taping and claims Ben was a crappy boyfriend. And now Ben is responding with an interview in Life & Style in which he states the obvious and says he never should have gotten engaged to the sociopathic famewhore.
“You know, hindsight is 20/20,” Ben tells the mag, adding that he should have listened to every single contestant from his season of The Bachelor who tried to warn him that Courtney is a two-faced succubus. “I should apologize to all those women and say, ‘Sorry I didn’t see it.’ I really have lost all respect for this person that I thought I knew and that I was in love with at one point.”
How much “respect” for Courtney did Ben really have, though? He has claimed that seeing her bitchy behavior toward the other contestants negatively affected his feelings for her, and the two broke up briefly while the season was airing (only to get reengaged during the “After the Final Rose” episode) in part because he cheated on her and quit talking to her. That doesn’t sound like “respect” at all. The “quit talking to her” part doesn’t even sound like “mature adult relationship” at all.
Ben also admits to Life & Style that his family was wary of the model, but because he’s obviously not too bright, “I wanted to see it through on my own. I knew if it was going to work or not. It just took a little bit longer.” And apparently his friends aren’t too bright, either, because even though they watched The Bachelor and saw Courtney’s shenanigans just like the rest of America did, “I talk to my friends all the time and they’re like, ‘Maybe she was just really good at it. She got all of us fooled, too, Ben. You weren’t the only one,'” he laments.
But could this interview just be sour grapes? Ben is obviously not pleased that Courtney has very quickly and very publicly moved on with Bachelorette runner-up Arie Luyendyk Jr., and saying “she’s stooping so low to get attention” and calling her a “black widow” does make him sound pretty bitter. So maybe it’s partly a case of sour grapes and partly a case of regret that he didn’t pull the plug on the relationship sooner. But hopefully he’s learned his lesson and doesn’t let another pretty face fool him so badly on his upcoming E! reality show (ugh).
What do you think? Does Ben Flajnik regret getting engaged to Courtney Robertson? Is this just sour grapes because she moved on to Arie Luyendyk Jr. so quickly? Sound off in the comments!
