Barbara Walters will reveal who the most fascinating people of 2011 are on December 14. So who should be at the top of her list?
Most of the public figures that she’ll focus on for her show have already been announced. Babs will take a look back at the Kardashians since Kim Kardashian’s divorce from Kris Humphries became one of the biggest news stories of the year. She’ll also have Kourtney Kardashian’s pregnancy to talk about now.
Simon Cowell snagged a slot, which might annoy his British rival Piers Morgan (the two are engaged in a Twitter war over who can get the most followers).
Modern Family stars Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Eric Stonestreet were two of the most interesting additions to the list of the most fascinating people of 2011. It’s likely that Barbara Walters added them because they’re some of the first actors to play a gay couple with a kid on a sitcom (plus they’re great actors with incredibly funny characters).
New York Yankees star Derek Jeter made the list, as did business tycoon Donald Trump. Perhaps he’s filling the political figure slot – he was a pretty big deal early on in the GOP race. It might seem surprising that Barbara Walters didn’t pick a fresh face like Herman Cain or Rick Perry, but the top slot on her list is still open.
Katy Perry’s popularity earned her a spot, so she’s got to feel good about beating out other female pop stars like Lady Gaga and Britney Spears (but one of them could still snag Babs’ top spot, of course), and Pippa Middleton’s famous rear helped make her one of the most fascinating people of 2011 (her sister appeared on the list last year).
So who will top Barbara’s list? Will she try to shock everyone by going with someone unexpected? The obvious choice would be Justin Bieber, who was recently named the most searched-for celebrity. She could also go with one of the figures whose court cases captivated the country, like Conrad Murray, Amanda Knox, or Casey Anthony. Or perhaps she’ll pick Breaking Dawn couple Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson (right now her list is lacking in movie actors and actresses, after all).
Of course she could also pair up Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez for the top slot – it would be a good way to attract younger viewers for the ABC special on December 14. The Biebs appeared on her list last year, but he can’t be counted out since Sarah Palin was on it three years in a row.
So who do you think Barbara should pick?
