This week, Barbie embarks on a cross-country tour in four cities beginning in San Francisco, CA on July 20. With the help of dolls in pink equipped with Barbie video cameras, Barbie will be engaging fans in a live scavenger hunt using Twitter and Foursquare. The dolls continue their tour through July 23 stopping in Los Angeles, CA, Chicago, IL and finally, New York City, NY. The contest awards thirteen winners with Barbie Video Girl dolls worth $50 and one grand prize winner receives the doll and an iHome Barbie pink iPod docking station worth $125.

Barbie has been promoting her adventure via her Twitter profile and Facebook page. According to her Facebook page, she’ll be checking into “a mix of fun and fashionable venues” in each of the cities. According to Clickz, Mattel says fans 18 and older must follow Barbie on Twitter and Foursquare between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. local time in each city to participate. The first person to arrive at the secret location and show the team something pink or a mobile phone with a check-in at the location or the original Barbie tweet with the clue, will be the winner at that location.

It will be interesting to see how the scavenger hunt affects Barbie’s fans and followers. As of Friday, Barbie had more than 427,000 Facebook fans, 16,420 Twitter followers and 271 followers on Foursquare.
