Although Alexis M started a boycotting campaign in hopes of getting Basketball Wives off the air, it sounds like it may actually have done the complete opposite. When something gets attention because someone wants to boycott it, it often draws much attention because people want to see what it is, which in turn could produce profits for the cable network or business. A perfect example is Kim Kardashian; after she filed for divorce after supposedly profiting millions from sharing her wedding on television, someone tried to boycott her. Yet, here she is with a $40 million contract for reality television just 6 months later.
Well, according to PR Newswire, VH1 ratings have gone up about 33 percent since the drama surrounding Basketball Wives has surfaced. On top of the boycotting campaign, the show has also a pending lawsuit from one of the stars, Jennifer Williams, because she felt violated by her former friend Nia Crooks after she was slapped in the face. While the 33 percent isn’t solely just Basketball Wives, the percentage also includes Mob Wives which is just as violent.
Sure, the wives fight it out, but so do the Mobster wives. It sounds like violence and bullying is the top entertainment pick for viewers. And despite lawsuits and boycott campaigns, the numbers don’t lie. 33 percent is a huge increase.
