Baylor takes on Notre Dame tonight for the Womans NCAA National Title. This is the pinnacle of every college player’s career. All of their hard work and sacrifice has paid off for both teams to this point, and they will do everything in their power to bring a championship home to their universities.
Coming into this game, Notre Dame is coming off an impressive win over UConn with a final score of 83-75. There has been much focus on their star point guard Skylar Diggins. She is a force on the court and is averaging 16.3 points per game. She scored 19 points in their win against UConn, and is part of the reason they are in the national title game. She is the facilitator of their offense, and they will need her to continue her production along with other players to come out with a championship tonight.
Brittany Mallory has also been clutch down the stretch, which can been seen with her excellent performance against UConn. Mallory hit three big three-pointers to help send Notre Dame on to the national championship.
Baylor comes into this game coming off an impressive win over Stanford with a final score of 59-47. They are coming into this game undefeated with an overall record of 39-0, and will look to continue their perfect season with a win over Notre Dame today.
Brittany Griner is the spotlight for the Lady Bears. She has had an impressive showing this season and is averaging an incredible 23.1 points per game. She has definitely made her mark in woman’s college basketball, which has possibly changed people’s perception about woman’s sports all together. On many occasions she has dunked the ball, which has sparked her teammates as well as her university. Griner didn’t have a stellar performance against Stanford scoring only 13 points, but luckily others stepped up their games to help send them on to the national championship.
Coming into tonight’s game, the match ups should present for an interesting game. How will the guards of Notre Dame get shots off with Griner anticipating their every move? It will be interesting to see if Skylar Diggins can figure the Griner puzzle out in hopes of beating the slightly favored Lady Bears.
This game is a testament to how fun woman’s college basketball can be to watch. They have just as much talent as the men’s game does, and it truly will be a game to remember.
