The famous beach of Boracay in the Philippines may have been host to a recent sex scandal. While the scandal is raising the attention of those from the country, it likely will have US residents shrugging their shoulders. It doesn’t involve any high-profile celebrities having an affair, but instead a couple from a party making out, without any clothes on.
Boracay, Aklan is usually host to thousands of tourists enjoying water sports, lounging on the beach and recently a major party with couples making love. According to a report from ABS-CBN, the recent sex scandal involves camera footage (shown via the site and NSFW) which captured a naked couple making out in public on New Year’s Day following a massive all-out beach party. There are currently no laws against this, but the mayor of the island John Yap believes the religious and conservative area needs one to ensure “No sex in the beach.”
According to the ABS-CBN report, Filipina actress Ruffa Gutierrez was also vacationing in Boracay and commented:
“As a Filipina, I’m still very conservative even though I grew up in America. I do not want also that my children do that, knock on wood, one day. So for me, it’s just not right.”
The problem here is that most Americans do feel that they should be able to enjoy the same freedoms on vacation in other countries or nations as when they are in the United States. Making out naked in public in many areas of the US, including many beaches, would result in a possible fine for public indecency or indecent exposure. In the case of the vacation island destination of Boracay it appears they need a better law to handle these situations, so for now all they can do is complain about it.
