Beloved actor Andy Griffith has passed away at the age of 86. Griffith was best known for his TV shows–with one depicting his own name and the other, Mayberry RFD. In later years he portrayed the lead role in the TV series Matlock.
According to a report from WCNC.com in North Carolina, Griffith died on Tuesday, July 3rd, at his home in Raleigh, North Carolina. Emergency crews responded to the actor’s home at about 7AM in Dare County. He was pronounced dead a short time later.
Griffith majored in music at UNC Chapel Hill, playing the brass horn and later became a renown Gospel singer. It was while in college he developed a passion for acting.
Andy Griffith was born in Mount Airy, North Carolina on June 1, 1926, and it was upon his hometown that the fictitious Mayberry, RFD was born. His TV son Opie Taylor grew up to be the world-famous film director and producer Ron Howard. Howard is no doubt grieving the loss of his dear friend and mentor.
The entertainment world has lost a talent and a good soul in the passing of Andy Griffith. Fortunately he leaves behind a legacy that won’t soon be forgotten.
