Best Kept Secrets of San Antonio, TX – Relax, Refresh, & Reconnect

Best Kept Secrets of San Antonio, TX  – Relax, Refresh, & Reconnect

My family and I were so lucky to have been able to vacation in San Antonio when my kids were little. As my sister at the time was living in Dallas.; and a weekend excursion to San Antonio was a great family destination to share with the cousins.  There were so many activities and places for us to explore that  ranged from the city’s major theme parks, to the River Walk lined with its fabulous restaurants, patios, galleries and shops, to the culturally significant arts, history, culture, museums, and architecture. This was one of my top family vacation spots.

Play – San Antonio had an unqualified range of activities for our great family vacation.  The city’s major theme parks topped our list; but we enjoyed dozens of other adventures, including the San Antonio Zoo, which just so happens to be one of our nation’s largest zoo’s. Then there was the Children’s Museum, with it’s hands-on exhibits that encouraged creative play and we will never forget Ripley’s Haunted Adventure or  the Davey Crocket ride which unfortunately has since been replaced with the current Tomb Rider’s 3D   experience with it’s special effects, animatronics and live actors. San Antonio was most certainly a great family vacation.

Eat & Drink – There were dining options that pleased my family’s picky palates and even kept us on our frugal budget.  These particular  dining establishments are also just perfect for foodies and some are great family destinations too.

See & Hear – San Antonio is a big city assortment of cultural events and institutions.; but it also has its Texas Hill Country . These rolling hills, limestone cliffs and cool spring-fed rivers start at San Antonio’s doorstep.

Wellness -  From yoga to fitness, there are wellness opportunities for all.

Family & Kids – My Kids had a lot of fun here. There was our experience at  the Alamo, Texas’ #1 visitor attraction, plus strolling the secluded parts of the River Walk to wandering through the Spanish missions.  We soaked in the live music, from polka to R&B at the Main Plaza. We even had time to explore San Antonio Museum of Art which just happens to be free on Tuesdays.  We also took in Southtown’s public shindig, First Friday Art Walk.  If you ever get to go, here is a list of More free fun things to do with your family.

Shopping - San Antonio has a store for every type of shopper.

Events – There is an endless string of festivals, parties, and more.  These annual festivals celebrate art, music, culture, food, wine, sports, and all the major holidays.  If you’re looking to avoid the crowds, like my family; browse a more extensive calendar that lists smaller budget friendly, but no less significant activities.

Attractions -   We began by taking a hot-air balloon ride over the city; but we could have easily taken it over the Texas Hill Country.  We strolled through the restored Japanese Tea Garden, swam with the dolphins at SeaWorld San Antonio, and had exquisitely-good tamales at Tellez, a great local dive. We then took a river taxi from one end of the River Walk to the other. Then to relax in the evening my hubby and I had a mojito at the Menger Hotel’s historic bar and then watched the sunset from the 759-foot Tower of The Americas while our babies slept.

San Antonio certainly is the ‘Best Kept Secret’ place to relax, refresh, reconnect, and just kick back and enjoy all of the comforts that you & your family deserve.
