Betty White Responds to Golden Girl Rue McClanahan Death [VIDEO]

And then there was one. Betty White is the last living Golden Girl after news today of Rue McClanahan, or Blanche Devereaux from The Golden Girls series, death at the age of 76.

Betty White, who has recently surged into the spotlight after her appearance in May hosting Saturday Night Live says she is deeply saddened by Rue McClanahan’s death. “Rue was a close and dear friend. I treasure our relationship,” Whitesaid in a statemen sent to People Magazine. “It hurts more than I ever thought it would, if that’s even possible.”

McClanahan diedThursday, following the deaths of costars Bea Arthurlast year at age 86 and Estelle Gettyin 2008 at age 84.

Rue McClanahan’s manager told People Magazine that the actress died at 1 a.m. Thursday morning from a massive stroke. McClanahan had triple bypass surgery last November. While still recovering, she had a minor stroke in January.

News of Rue McClanahan’s death has shocked and saddened fans of The Golden Girls series. Many of us grew up watching the show and these women were like our teachers, neighbors, parents, even grandparents to us. Of the latest celebrity deaths, this one has shocked the community, with many people posting obituaries on their facebook or twitter feed. Betty White must be really sad about one of her dear friends and fellow Golden Girl passing.
