It’s been do or die time for Tiger Woods since the FedEx Cup 2010 Playoffs started and it doesn’t change as Tiger teed off at 10:10 a.m. ET in round 2 of the BMW Championship for 2010. After yesterday’s mediocre showing where Woods posted a two over 73 at Cog Hill he sits in a tie at 39th with eleven other golfers.  More importantly he currently finds himself on the outside looking in when it comes down advancing to the final leg of the FedEx Cup Playoffs.
Only the top 30 golfers in the FedEx Cup point standings after the BMW Championship concludes will advance onto The Tour Championship next week. After his 11th place finish at the Deutsche Bank Championship last week Woods had jumped from 65th place to 51st place in the FedEx standings. His struggles in the first round of the BMW on Thursday Tiger didn’t help his cause as PGATour.com has his projected FedEx Cup ranking at 52nd if he can’t move up from his current placement.
Luckily for Tiger he yesterday was only one round. But he has to start playing better golf…quickly. If he can’t climb the leaderboard in round 2 on Friday then his chances of cracking the top 30 by the end of the weekend become even slimmer.
We’ll see what happens with Woods but the great story developing this season is the brilliant play of Matt Kuchar. The leader of the FedEx Cup points standings continued his hot streak as he tore up the Cog Hill course with seven under 64 to sit alone atop the leaderboard. If he can sustain his play throughout the weekend he’ll head into The Tour Championship with a great chance to win the 2010 FedEx Cup and $10 million.
