A pair of bodies hanging from a bridge in Mexico bore the inscription “I’m about to get you.” It comes on the heels of threats from drug cartels about social media users who report illegal activity along the border.

This story is what shows like On The Margin tackle that shapes the issues in this country and around the world. Sadly, like child and human trafficking, murders from retribution and whistle-blowing is running rampant.

Border Mexico-GuatemalaThe discovery of the dead bodies from a pedestrian bridge in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico, is gruesome and serves as a fair warning to others to beware.

Unfortunately, it is evidence of a battle local authorities are losing to widespread cartels along the border.

According to local authorities, a woman in her twenties was found topless and hogtied with her entrails exposed like a gutted pig or cow.

A man of nearly the same age hang next to her on the Mexico bridge. His bloodied corpse showed evidence of severe trauma with the bones of his shoulders clearly visible.

Police in search of a motive for the bodies hanging from the bridge in Mexico didn’t have to search far and long. Messages written on posters and placards provided the answer officials were in search of:

“This is going to happen to all of those posting funny things on the Internet,” one sign said. “You better (expletive) pay attention. I’m about to get you.” Clearly, this was a warning to social media users.

This type of violence from drug cartels along the Mexican border is nothing new. However, it marks the first time users of social media such as Twitter and Facebook were allegedly targeted.

The fear is so prevalent in the country, officials are even afraid to speak out about brutal killings and violence from drug trafficking.

The state of Arizona is a staunch supporter of shoring up and closing the border that separates the US and Mexico. Despite its tough stance on immigration, the possibility looms that illegal trafficking and violence threatens the United States.

Surprisingly, the bodies hanging from the Mexico bridge was not enough to frighten off one Twitter user, who said, “Enough! If we shut up today, we will have lost the ground that we have gained. This is the time to show what we are made of.”

Hopefully, governments in both countries become aggressive in championing laws that cut down on the rising deaths and violence from retribution and competition.
