Bones season 8 continues next week with episode 3, “The Gunk in the Garage.” Sweets is going to be taking the lead in the field, and that means a new partner, who means “a pointy little triangle with everything that suggests” for Sweets, as Hart Hanson told Gather.com.

After an explosion occurs in a hotel garage, the Jeffersonian team must research the remains found at the crime scene in order to match them to the victim. The investigation only gets trickier when they discover that the man whom they thought was dead is actually alive. Meanwhile, Booth has to take on a desk assignment to get the department’s budget approved in order to land a promotion, so Sweets is given a temporary partner, FBI Special Agent Olivia Sparling (guest star Danielle Panabaker).”

At least with Booth behind a desk for this one, it doesn’t look like he’s likely to have to deal with the crime scene they’ll be examining with this case. And he thought stepping in brain in the last episode was bad…

As the season 8 episode 3 promo for “The Gunk in the Garage” (below) shows, this is one gross crime scene, and Hodgins is going to take the worst of it when remains fall on his face and Cam tells him not to move. Poor Hodgins just asks, “Could you take the big pieces off first?” He may be used to dealing with gross remains, but this is a bit much.

Meanwhile, poor Sweets is not going to have an easy time when it comes to delivering the news to the wife of the victim…or at least so he thinks. Her husband comes home, and that leads to the wife kicking Sweets. So what happened? Booth asks on the phone, “Bones made a mistake?” That’s not something that happens, but this is a very strange case. So who is the victim if the person they thought it was is still alive? Is he a twin? That seems too easy, so what’s the twist going to be with this episode?
