~Borrowed Light~

A figure stood on

the marble staircase

His sibylline voice

spoke of another time

spun from a haze

of borrowed light

and orange-infused brandy

His nubile form sprung

traces of decay

mixed with the scent

of stale Quintero smoke

Marked with incandescent shame

seeking retribution from

letters in his hands

lipstick on parchment

an incunabulum of yesteryear

As our worlds were brushing

swaying together ever so briefly

like lover’s lips, red-stained

I was consumed and speechless

frozen in my shivering skin

as he slipped back into the ether

the pages turning to dust

scattering at my feet
